Child Abuse Essay

Child Abuse is harm done to a child; this person causing the abuse can be either a child or an adult. Sadly, child abuse has been practiced in all cultures, and in all ethics throughout the world. In certain places child abuse started to be noticed and considered as one of the major problems in society. It is normally caused by stress or an economic problem, the average of child abuse is frightfully high, which is unacceptable we should unite as a society to make this end throughout the entire world.

Experts attribute to the recent increase in reporting that we need greater public awareness of child maltreatment, but societal groups don’t realize that this is a huge problem. There are several points of view on this certain type of issue, as some people think that it is absolutely right that a good portion of attention is being paid to children abuse and also to protect them from harm. However, others suggest that people focus more attention to other unimportant situations and they deny the fact that those certain situations contribute to the unbelievable behavior towards children.

Child abuse is actually more than bruises, name calling, and emotional stress. While physical abuse is unpleasant due to the scars it leaves, not all type of abuse is as obvious as it seems. Ignoring children’s necessities, putting them into dangerous situation, or making a child feel worthless by blaming them for everything. Regardless of the type of abuse, the result is emotionally harmful rather than physically. It is also true that abused children are most likely to repeat this cycle as adults and treat their own children the same way.

Nevertheless, repeating what they experienced won’t help in any matter; it’s just a demonstration that they try to maintain a certain type of control over their own children. On the other hand, adult survivors of child abuse have a strong motivation to protect their own children against what they went through when they were small in order to not make their own kids suffer the same abusive way. It’s easy to say that only “bad people” abuse their children, but it’s not always that way. Not all abusers intentionally harm their kids, many of them have been victims of abuse themselves, and they make this an excuse and abuse their own kids, they just don’t know any other way to parent their own children. Others may be struggling with economic issues or a substance abuse problem, it doesn’t only happen in poor families, it crosses all ethic, economic, and cultural biases. Sometimes, families who seem to have it all always end up hiding the real story of child abuse. Several types of child abuse and the core element that ties them together is the emotional effect that causes on the child.

Children need predictability, structures, clear boundaries, and the knowledge that their parents are looking out for their own safety. Abused children cannot predict their parents actions towards them; the fact that children live their own world unpredictably and in a frightening place with no rules makes them more vulnerable against their parent’s aggressions. Whether the abuse is a slap or a simple side comment, the result is a child that feels unsafe. The different types found in child abuse are, physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse.

It is not hard to follow up with these types of abuse. Those children who are being physically abused are mostly hurt by repeated injuries , bruises, and burns, some of them show the object of which they were assaulted with, like for example with a belt, electric cord, or anything that is at the abusers reach. Recently there have been cases of cigarette marks on children’s back and hands. Some of these physical injuries are done to small children and it is more noticeable to find out at their young age.

In physical abuse the child never knows what is going to set the parents in a bad mood or in a situation that it might lead to aggression towards the kid. Children don’t know how to cause a physical assault, physical abuse parents act out of anger and the desire to assert control and domination against their own children, but the truth is that they teach their children from right to wrong and that’s why in the future they follow the same steps with their own kids, it’s like following up with the same cycle all over again.

Some kids may also notice that the angrier the adult is the harsher the abuse will be, those parents who are usually abusive may believe that their children need to fear them in order to feel like there the max authority around their home. While emotional abuse is defined as constant attack of a child. It is important to recognize that the word is ‘constant’ meaning repeatedly. In this sort of abuse the children receive only negative messages and this leads to a bad influence in their life.

This abuse always tend to result in psychological growth, other forms of abuse are the most difficult one of child abuse to stop but emotional abuse is by far the most hard on to identify, because it doesn’t result in physical evidence, it can be very hard to diagnose. Regardless if it’s hard to identify or not as a parent it should be their responsibility to notice something wrong on their own children, that’s basically the main of a parent. Although visible signs of emotional abuse can be difficult to identify, the hidden scars of this type of abuse show p in different behavioral ways.

Emotionally abused children often grow up thinking that they are worthless, a tragedy case by this is that these children grow up thinking that they are worthless, a tragedy cause by this is that, these children grow up thinking that this is the right way to treat their own children but they are wrong about this type of mentality they grown upon the time they have been being abused, for some reason the abuse way parents treat their children also leads to children being bullied but that’s another type of matter that should also be discussed in a proper way.

One of the hardest experiences for children is mainly sexual abuse; the signs can be so evident for surrounding adults. For example the child can tell to himself if he/she have been sexually abused or not but they won’t have the courage to tell anybody else because they are afraid to do so. The certain signs towards sexually abused are difficulty walking or sitting, stained underwear, genital pain, even some kids wet there bed at night or some even might even not be able to sleep at all because there too scared on being sexually abused again.

The emotional signs on being sexually abused are difficulty eating, hard time sleeping, acting like a much younger kid in order to catch the parents attention depending if the parents or any family member is abusing the kid, and they may also not be sociable because they decide to stay apart from other children or even from their own parents if they aren’t the ones abusing the child. Children are innocent and vulnerable of we can even say gullible they are too afraid to report that they are being abused, or they might also don’t know how to report this incident either.

The best way to opt out in this abuse is to always have the confidence on speaking about it with a close relative or with a best friend it’s most likely that they might have the answer to help out with this sort of case, if not calling the authorities is always the best way to handle this painful situation. The situation is that children usually tend dot feel embarrassed if they have to answer questions about sexual activity or their behavior might have a slight change while talking about this subject.

Statistics show that children with disabilities are 4 to 10 times capable to being sexually abused, because they can’t defend themselves and are most likely to talk into doing something inappropriate without them wanting too. Those children that are being sexually abused feel fear, depression, anger, and, poor self-esteem. However; young age girls, who were forced to have sex or forced to inappropriate actions are three times more likely to develop some psychiatric disorders or become alcohol and drugs addict when becoming adults than those who were not sexually abused.

Boys always end up choosing the wrong path because they tend to hold more anger towards whoever caused them harm. But both girls and boys, who were sexually abused, may also develop some eating disorders and behavioral problems. Sexual and physical abuses in early childhood influence adult men and women negatively, they usually from disturbances, and they constantly have nightmares and flashbacks. Recent studies for this matter show that they may also have a low concentration in their education.

However;; girls are sexually abused three times more than boys, and boys have a greater risk of emotional neglect and injuries than most girls. Sexual abuse is by far the most dangerous assault caused to children. Another type of abuse is child neglect which is very obvious because it’s just the lack of attention to a child. When children are emotionally abused, he/she are afraid to come back home, talk to their parents also the lack of concentration on their education, they may also show aggressiveness behavior towards other kids or even to adults.

Among other things, verbal abuse an affect your child’s self-worth, damage his ability to trust others, and disfigure academic and social skills. A child experiencing verbal abuse may not be physically or sexually abused. Despite the opposition of physical aggression most people probably view this as wrong better than right. Verbal Abuse is a form of psychological maltreatment, and it may be the most destructive part of kid’s life. The problem of child abuse depends on the family members.

Abuse may actually happen in any type of family, disregarding the characteristics. But there are also certain families, where the abuse is more likely to happen when they are separated from society, have no friends, financial problems, or more likely when they are under a lot of stress. The main risk is with families where parents are alcoholics of drug addicts, they come from any ethnic or income levels and backgrounds and their problems have devastating impact on children’s healthy and development or also environment.

We could talk even about some certain type of substance abuse, meaning that they children of alcoholics are at highest risks of becoming chemically dependent, their mental status, social life, and physical development are also influenced. This problem is never to be excluded from the list of major social and family problems; all kinds of physical and emotional abuse are hard to overcome. Adults should be attentive towards all children, not only to their own problems; because this is their duty to stop the abuse caused to all type of children but specially to their own children at home.

The best way to prevent it is to contact or report it to child support services and local health departments. Children are the future to this nation and their healthy development growth should be the basis of every parent’s main matter of focus. Personally, I understand how difficult it is to overcome the situations our parents may have. During many years of my life as a child I had gone through seeing my father’s sexual, physical, and emotional abuse towards my mother, and specially the abandonment of me and my sisters. I think it’s better to just maintain excuses to my father’s actions to try to forget what we would see him do to my mother.

I think everyone goes throughout life with feeling, and fears, and low self-esteem. The police always popped out in my head at the acts of my father towards my mother, beating her and almost trying to hit us too. I usually tend to judge others at the acts of aggression but I know that I went through the same thing and now I think twice before I judge someone who has been abused. Whatever we went through in our childhood, serves as a purpose in life it like a defense mechanism, so we won’t commit any sort of abuse towards nobody.

If we take on our parents flaws and make them our own we will fall and take there same route of overcoming our fears towards life. Children are the screen receiving the projection of what we make them follow and therefore the cycle continues over again until someone makes a different to break this endless cycle. To prevent child abuse, the main causes must be identified first. However; alcohol is one of the biggest causes of abuse. Alcohol abuse was found to be in 40 of child abuse cases. Many times parents react under the stress and always say that any harm they had cause to their child is not considered abuse.

Parents lose control of their temper; a cause of child abuse that often overlooked is also parental inexperience. In conclusion, the four types of child abuse; physical, sexual, emotional and verbal abuse and their effects are long lasting and damaging. To maintain our children safe from child abuse all over the world, the main causes need to be identified, and taken into consideration before it’s too late and death could be the consequences of parent’s actions. Child abuse is an extreme situation facing many families in our nation, and a solution based on society awareness needs to be contrived to stop this endless cycle.
