O. Jelly’s lurid Numbers on Glossy Pages! (Magazines exploit what sells) and Peter Stalin’s Seeing as believing: The Paintings of Judith Belier. I am going to compare and contrast the views and writing styles of these two readings. Katharine talks about the celebrity magazines and other magazines read by the younger generations. Her article involves the influence of these magazines on ordinary people. She talks about how the editors are in constant search for some new gossip and other stories related to celebrities or something which might be interesting for the reader.
She also used quotes by different people in her article. Peter Stilling on the other hand talks about paintings. He talks more philosophically. He started his essay with a quote by John Berger, ‘We only see what we look at. To look is an act of choice. ” He did not use any quotes, he rather explained and described the beauty of the painting.
