This essay examines my aesthetic cultural background and main influences throughout my life. I was born in Istanbul which is the capital city of Turkey; however, my father and mother were born in Kenya.
Turkey has played a major role in the history of the world. In regard to the fact that Turkey Is an Islam country, Turkeys importance in the world is really high. The main underlying reason for that is because Turkey is the only country which is not only secular and democratic, but also Salamis as well. Based on the census data collected in 2000, Turkey has a 96. Muslim population. The influence of Islam on the Turkish people is an undeniable fact. The Turkish people have faced with Islam during the war between China and Arabs in 751.
In 920, the first Turkish government accepted to be Muslim was the Caravan’s. With the acceptance of Islam, believes of the Turkish people have changed drastically. The Impact of Islam on the Turkish calculation resulted In a change of their state of life from being a nomad to a settled life. After the Turkish people adopted a settled life, they established well-known cities and cultural centers.Islam religion which was accepted as a lifestyle by the Turks, not only resulted In rooted changes In understanding of the social-cultural life, Ideological philosophies, and the language, but also set the stage for a new trend of shaping the literary works and musical pieces which are important reflections of culture. I have to mention Ottoman music in our culture. Ottoman classical music developed In Istanbul and major Ottoman towns from Skopje to Cairo.
From Tabors to Morocco through the palace, mosques, and Suffix lodges of the Ottoman Empire.Above all a vocal music, Ottoman music traditionally accompanies a solo singer with a small Instrumental ensemble. In recent times, instruments might Include timber (lute nee (flute), keened (fiddle), Keenan (Western Kane (zither), or other Instruments. Sometimes described as monophonic music, the variety of ornamentation and variation in the ensemble requires the more accurate term heterocyclic. It has a tune that is really relaxing me and gives me a good feeling. Infancy and Preschool In my early life, I was exposed to Instrumental music because of my father. He likes music without a word, especially melodies generated by a Turkish instrument called the ‘Nee.
My father knows how to play Nee; however, he is not very good at laying Nee. He took Nee course in his mid twenties. In some nights my father was listening Nee. Whenever I heard the sound of Nee, always remind my father. The Nee Is an end-blown flute originating from Iran that figures prominently In Middle Eastern music. In some of these musical traditions, it is the only wind instrument used. The Nee has been played continuously for 4,500-5,000 years, making it one of the oldest musical Instruments still In use.
Turkish and Arab News normally have 7 holes, 6 In front and one thumb-hole In the back. The typical Persian Nee has 6 holes, one of which is on the back. Nee has a really relaxing sound and tone that it makes me feel like in the air. During my preschool ages, music for me is like Just School The major impact on my musical life happened in my primary school. Thanks to my father, I have always been sent to private school. In Turkey primary schools are more weighted on selective courses. This led me to take music courses as well next to my art courses.
My primary school music teacher was Galleys Oozier. She was approaching us like mother. She was always trying teach us and give us the love of music instead of pushing curriculum topics. In my fourth grade, Mrs.. Galleys were caching us flute. She requested me to play flute after 5 lesson of the flute.
Suddenly, one of my friends said, “he cannot play because of azans”. In Turkish culture we respect to azans very much, so when azans starts to sing everybody listen azans rather than any musical instrument. Sounds and smells that make up Istanbul, the one that best defines this city that spills across two continents to me is the sound of the Egan, or the call to prayer.I cannot imagine an Istanbul without this daily wave of sound. The Egan (adman in Arabic) is the call to prayer, while the person who does the call is the muezzin. Prayer times differ, determined to the minute by the position of the sun and the longitude and latitude of the mosque. Mrs.
. Galleys also taught us the musical notes. I will forget what she taught me anytime. Middle School In my middle school ages, I was in a different mood that I started listening the Turkish pop music. The most enjoyable singer I listened a lot was Seaward Aorta his music was so exciting and powerful. The tempo of his music was really high. And most of his music was dance music.
When we got together with my friends we were listening his music. He was very popular at that time. In middle school, my music coacher was not good enough in terms of giving us the love of music. His name was Mr.. Ala Upkeep. Mr.
. Ala was good at playing the instrument ‘Kane’. The Quean is a string instrument found in the 10th century in Attar in Astrakhan. The name derives from the Arabic word “kГnun,” which means rule, norm, and principle. Its traditional music is based on Macadam. It is essentially a zither with a narrow trapezoidal soundboard. Suntan’s used in Turkey have 26 courses of strings, with three strings per course.
High School While I was at ninth grade, one day after a music lesson Mr.. Selma requested me to join school chorus. This was a really important event for me because; I have never been in a chorus in my life. He said I can choose any instrument I want among a list he gave me, and I selected harmonica. I worked well, but unfortunately we had moved to another area, so I changed my school and I could not be able to attend chorus.New school means, new neighborhood, new type of people and friends.
My new neighbors were really enjoyable people. Every month they were making street wedding parties with street musicians playing active dance music. We were always attending those street weddings with my friends Just to have some fun. In my new school I have interested in Turkish folk music and plays. The Turkish folk or traditional music is very lively and is a complete contrast to the classical music that has been refined. Folk music was not documented until of late. The traditions have however been passed on for generations by story tellers and poets.
There are various types of Turkish folk music such as Hoar, Horn, ASAP Havana, NYU (Spoon dance), Klan (The Sword and Shield Dance), and Cyber. I attended the Turkish practices for a whole spring semester Just to perform on the end of the semester party. The present In recent times, I am listening Turkish and American pop music. And also thanks to the History of Jazz class I took at college, I am interested in Jazz music as well. I went to Jazz concerts in Istanbul and in New York city as well.My favorite male Jazz artist is Duke Elongating and my favorite female Jazz artist is Ella Fitzgerald. Also, my favorite Jazz work is the Panama girl from Astrid Gilberts and Stan Get.
I like the bebop era because of the bebop sound they made after the work done. The really interesting thing really affected me is the Jazz artists talent on doing improvisation. Magic Flute Magic flute is one of the most important opera in the world. It was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Schneider. The magic flute is in single form and includes both spoken and singing dialogue. It is known for its Masonic characteristics. The magic flute gives a story capturing education to humans, their progress from turmoil to religion and finally to enlightenment.
This opera informs my sense of music in an aesthetic manner. Rounding out a superb casts are; tenor, the nefarious servant Monsanto, sopranos with mezzo-soprano, the Three Ladies, soprano as Pageant and a baritone as the Speaker. Conductor assuredly leads the orchestra and cast through a faithful and satisfying rendition of Mozart score, with some strong if not stunning performances. Now Is The Month of Making One of the most affecting song that we heard in the lesson is the ‘Now is the month of making. It was composed by Thomas Morley in London, England in the era of the late Renaissance. There are both male and female voices in this song. The texture of the music is both homophobic and contrapuntal.
This charming madrigal is perhaps the best known of all English madrigals, and is the prototype of the Astoria-style madrigal, complete with references to nymphs, springtime, and dancing, and slightly suggestive references to games. Making refers to the springtime, as well as the month. I really liked this music because the tempo is quick 4 (quadruple). And it makes me feel good due to its lively, energetic and frolicsome mood. Keri Ellison This piece is composed by Hildebrand von Binge, in Binge, Germany, in the Era of medieval. It is written in Greek language. There is a female choir, a capable, and the texture is monophonic with syllabic and melodramatic form.
Text is mainly talks about, Lord and Christ have mercy. Hildebrand von Binge’s music is undoubtedly her most inspiring legacy. She is considered one of the leading composers of the middle ages. One of her works, the Ardor Virtue, has been called the first form, and possibly the origin, of opera. She composed seventy-seven more songs mostly for her monastery. Only a few decades ago, this incredible treasure was rediscovered and presented to a larger audience. The music is in a slow tempo.
When I listen Keri Ellison I always feel better than I was. The music tune of this piece is relaxing me. Rhapsody in Blue This is a composed peace of a Jazz piano concerto within an orchestra by George Gershwin. There is a sectional form around three main melodies such as BBC, and a really good peace for a composer who have an immigrant family emigrated from Russia and grew up in Brooklyn. Interestingly, this peace is animated by the Disney under the title of Fantasia 2000. When this peace was written, it was not telling a story. It was Just absolute music in a non programmatic form.
In the piece, the opening clarinet starts with a run thrill, transformed into the glissando, they added up with a final glissando. I want to point out the resolution after a clean thrill and the glissando. Then, a way mute comes with trumpet. It is like pluming pianos. First entry to the piece is spectacular. Solo piano, in the middle of piano cadenza, singing rubout style (George Gershwin). After World War l, music took a colorful shape and then artistic music has been a standard.
The dynamic range and coloration made the piano to apply into magnificent huge orchestras. We can easily hear the Banjo chord. There are a lot of sequences. Should be aware of the sound that was made by the piano, which is not Just piano, it is to seeking out the most valuable sound. It is the most artistic form of music.
