Nineteen eighty-four is a tale of future society, a society in which independent thinking is a crime punishable by death. A tale of a society that is populated with mindless, loveless, unfeeling followers of nothing. This is also a nation whose leaders are self serving and are not concerned with the common good by which all of society will benefit. A governing force known as The Party rules society. At the head of this government is a fictional figure known as Big Brother, whom all citizens must love and respect. The idealism of blind loyalty was embodied in this symbol.
