Growing Up in a Challenging World
For an International Celebration of world Youth Week in Dec, 2011 “Growing up in a challenging world” This proposal is suggesting that “Growing up in a challenging world” is a suitable theme for International Celebration of world Youth Week which will be held in Dec, 2011. The proposal comprises two parts; the former part introduces the strength of this theme, in regards to its relevance to Hong Kong and the latter part covers the details in the week, including the issues that can be explored during it and the ways that the selected issue can be addressed.
Growing up in a challenging world” is a perfect theme for the week as it is process high relevance to Hong Kong as Hong Kong itself is already a city saturated in challenges which measures youths’ ability on different areas, majorly educational, cognitive and social. It has been agreed for some years that “Hong Kong children were born in a competition about survival”, youngsters have to strive for excellence trough out their entire youth in order to survive after they graduate, which means to get a good job with good salary.
The most popular type of challenge Hong Kong youngsters have to face is the educational ones. Every youth in Hong Kong have to take is the public exams in order to permit them climbing along the ladder to occupy a seat for higher education. These exams were always described as fateful towards a youngster’s life as different labels; representing different level of ability youths have achieved on educational ground will be stigmatized on every youth through certs and exam report cards, which will last throughout one’s life. The competition is keen as everyone taking this challenge is at risk to ruin their whole life.
As every youth in Hong Kong are destined to face this keen, “fatal” challenge in their life, the theme “Growing up in a challenging world” will draw every Hong Kong youth’s attention as it coheres with the environment they were born in. Considering the detail of the week, “life planning” is highly suggested to be the main issues which will be introduced in the week. As good planning usually starts at the beginning, it is important to introduce this strategy towards youngsters in Hong Kong to plan their life when they are still fresh and ambitious.
Through introducing life planning towards youths, it can provide youngsters a clear picture of things they are going to encounter in the coming years and goals, which are not being set by others but themselves, they would like to achieve in their life. The issue on “life planning” is closely related to the theme of the week; growing up in a challenging world, as the goals and achievements they have aimed to achieve in their life will motivates them to vanquish the challenges they are going to face. A “sims” game is a perfect tool that can address the idea of life planning to the youth’s mind.
Youngsters participating in the youth week will be all assumed to be reborn as a virtual character; they have to plan the life of the character step by step in order to achieve their desired goal in life. To conclude, the theme of the youth week; “Growing up in a challenging world” is highly related to the situation Hong Kong youths are facing. In the week, “life planning” is strongly suggested as the main issue as it can motivates youths to try their best to overcome the challenges in life and a “sims” game is preferred to be the tool to introduce life planning towards yongsters.
