How Long Can a Teacher Teach Before He Becomes Stale?

4 April 2015
A discussion on the importance of teachers learning new skills and applying these newly learned skills in the classroom.

This paper looks at the ideas of whether teachers should be made to go back into learning to gain a new license after a period of time and also looks at how their time can best be used with initiating new forms and methods in the classroom.
“In many cases the end of the course many be the end of the job with those individual pupils for a teacher. The process has been seen through from start to finish, with imagination, innovation, understanding and tolerance used at all stages. In many ways it may indeed be these qualities that are most important in a teacher rather than the technical skills, as with these skills the technical ability can be learnt. (Mueller and Dweck, 1998). Teaching is not just a career it is a vocation, and as a vocation, it would be almost impossible to teach those core non-technical abilities to non skilled people, yet it with this in mind with a renewed structure of re education for teachers new ideas can perspectives can be placed into the forum with a new eagerness after a break from the classroom.”
