Intercultural communication helps employees from different ethnic backgrounds to communicate effectively with one another. It helps staff to understand each other’s cultural differences, and to communicate effectively without misunderstanding. Obviously a big disadvantage would be misunderstanding. Someone from say Paris and someone from Los Angeles would love very differently, Therefore trying to communicate interculturally might be a challenge to be productive. One time I effectively used intercultural communications was in the workplace.
I work as a stock clerk at union street Hannaford, and over the summer we had a French foreign exchange student working for us, He spoke very little English. I was placed as his mentor and took him under my wing. Although it was hard to make him understand the in depth Job procedures, All the basic information is shared no matter what culture you are from. So my advice to you when trying to communicate interculturally is to keep it basic, Don’t overwhelm the person with ridiculous commands, Just try to be understanding. Thank you for listening!
