Jfk Steel Speech Rhetorical Analysis
Today’s language shows us a lot about our time era and time eras before us. How everything is arranged, pronounced and broken down helps us realize how different language helps change the mood and attitude of a time era. Back in the day everything was smooth and connected most people used big words and proper grammar all the time no matter the situation. But today words are short and choppy, if you say something out of context it’s no big deal, if you create your own “slang” no one cares. In today’s society people take words for granted and don’t take the effort to learn them and use them correctly.
I think that we are living where there is less regard for precision in language. However, this precision in language is seen in okrent Daniel’s “A dispatch from the front line”. Daniel proclaimed that “culture creates disconnection and bias between society members” (source A). For the fact that in January memo to the foreign desk, former Jerusalem bureau chief James bennet addressed the paper gingerly use of the word ‘terrorism’.According to Tan, Amy, “mother Tongue. ” That states that “our language is fractured and broken” (source B). Because of the kind of limited English her mother speaks, and how it lacked a certain wholeness and soundness.

Furthermore, another example relating to the issue of the precision in language seen in Ray Magliozzi’s “Help Us Overthrow the Tall/Short Mafia. ” He points out that “Starbucks slowly altered the meaning of pre-established words in the English language, such as changing the names of the drinks from “large” or “small” to “tall” and “short” (source C).Tall then being their smallest drink size. Even I would get confused going into a Starbucks store, and when I asked for a small they suddenly would correct me and say “ohh you mean tall. ” All words have a basic mean or two when used in the right context and every one with basic skills know a lot of them. When you go around changing what we think is to be true, you cause a magnitude of confusion. Finally, words today have the power to be powerful I guess it just depends on the persons usage and arrangement of them in a sentence.
Not everything about how people use their words today is bad but it could be better. And not everyone uses little words with the wrong meaning placed behind them, but if we are going to change the significance of a word we need to let the general public know. Also I do believe that language is meant to be your voice so people just put it out there like they are picking it up.
