Though Emilie loves her husband, upon covering that she west used by her husband In Implementing the plot to bring about the destruction of Othello and Desman, she reveals the truth about Sago’s plot In front of everyone. Shakespeare makes Emilie personality cynical and pragmatic: however, her guilt and sense to justice redeem herself to be best character in “Othello. ” There are three different motivations, which help to portray Emilie character. Firstly, Amelia’s frail morality is depicted when she steals Adhesion’s handkerchief to please Ago for her desire and says, Vat’s will you give me now for that same handkerchief? (3. . 321). That scene was vividly pictured in Oliver Parker film “Othello” In which Emilie and Ago lying on the bed and Emilie handing over the handkerchief to Ago to persuade him to make love to her. Her second motivation Is being pragmatic and cynical towards men and marriage based on the treatment she receives from her husband Ago. In 1995 film “Othello’, while Emilie was having a conversation with Desman eater a small argument with Othello, Desman asks if any woman would cheat on their husband for the whole world.

Emilie replies, she would cheat on her husband for the whole world and her Cubans would even forgive her later if she knows her intentions. “Lass pity, who would not make her husband a cuckold to make him a monarch? I should venture purgatory for It. ” (4,3 45-77). Moreover, her bitterness towards marriage and men can be seen when she tells Desman that all

men forsakes women sooner or later. “They are all but stomachs, and we all but food: They eat us hunger, and when they are full They Belch us. Though morally frail and cynical, Amelia’s guilt and a sense to justice appears when she comes to realize that Ago tooled her and made her partly responsible for Adhesion’s death. That scene is portrayed in Oliver Parser’s film in which Emilie pointed her finger at Ago, as lying to Othello about the origin of handkerchief upon discovering that Desman was killed by Othello and it was all part of laws plan. ‘That handkerchief thus speaks of/ I found by fortune and did give my husband. ” “He begged of me to steal It. (5,2, 236). There are different adaptations of Shakespeare Othello. From opera version to some contemporary adaptations, The opera “Othello” and the 1995 movie Othello” remain faithful to the original plot and characters. Email character loves Ago though Ago treats her with disrespect and never shows her any genuine affection. Emilie seems very submissive to Ago and always tries to grab her husband attention. By stealing Adhesion’s handkerchief, she hopes that she would please her husband. L remains the same in both version and so is her sense of Justice and guilt as well. However, BBC film Othello and Blake- Nelson’s film “O” are contemporary adaptations of Shakespearean Othello and offers a different perspective on Emilie character. In BBC film Othello, Emilie character went boarding school together with Dies Desman) and she is also Ben Jingo (Lagos girlfriend). As in the original Othello play, she loves Ago unconditionally. However, unlike Emilie in original “Othello”, Emilie from BBC film seems to be more optimistic about men.

In a scene where she is lying on the bed with Ben Jingo, she says that she believe there is something lovable about everyone, even when they turn out to be an gasohol. Also, she believes that Ben Jingo is a man of good morals. She also has a very good impression on John Othello though her character in the original Othello play feels more intimidated by mineral Othello. In Blake Nelson’s “O”, Emily, the character name for Emilie, is best friend and roommate of Dies (Desman) and she loves her friend.

However, in this adaptation, Emily is not fond of Odin James, who is impersonation of Othello character. There is a scene where she is talking to Dies about making love with Odin and whether she has been forced or not portrays that she doesn’t like Odin. However, the common theme in every adaptation is that Emilie has a sense of guilt and justice. As interesting as Emilie character appears to be in every adaptation of Shakespearean Othello, nothing can transcends 1995 “Othello” movie by Oliver Parker, which stays faithful to the original play.

What make Emilie character unique is the contradiction qualities she has: cynical pragmatism versus guilt and sense of Justice. Though BBC film “Othello” film and “O” offers new insights to Emilie character, they doesn’t offer her cynical pragmatism as vividly as 1995 “Othello” movie does. Emilie is a character of imperfection, who sacrifices herself to be died in moral and Justice perfection. Works cited Othello. Dir. Oliver Parker. Per. Laurence Fishbone and Kenneth Branch. 1995.
