Land reform is one of the most complex and divisive issues confronting Latin American societies. Efforts to attain real land reform in Latin American countries generally have produced limited success at best. No single approach to land reform is likely to work in all Latin American countries. Further, the rightward drift of economics and politics throughout Latin America makes it likely that effective land reform efforts in the region will become even more difficult to attain (Barraclough 16).
