Losing government property leads to wasteful spending along with your chain of command’s time. If your lost ID falls into the wrong hands you are therefore giving that power to someone who shouldn’t be on post, which can put other soldiers, contractors, and military families in danger. Along with putting them at risk, you are leaving government property at risk of thief and/or vandalism. There are also very important documents and equipment that if fallen into the wrong hands can be problematic to OPSEC. Lack of accountability shows a lack of responsibility, and there is no room in the military for irresponsibility, we are all responsible for eachother’s lives and well being down range and it all starts with our gear .
