Nuclear Weapon and Science
Have you ever wondered a time when we all live like the Jetsons? I have. But, I have also wondered what if we were like the Flintstones, living in a world with no science and technology perhaps even before the discovery of wheels. That wouldVe been really tough. Then, there would be no cars, bikes, or any automobiles. We would also have no school and we would’ve never been able to live in our houses like how we do today. We have all become so dependent that a life without science and technology would seem more Ilke a nightmare.
Science has so much engulfed our lives that nothing can take place in our day to day work without the help of science. Our food, transport, learning, administration, recreation and social life are all linked with science in various ways. The aim of science Is to search for truth, and to know things that lay, unrevealed. Great discoveries are a result of reasoning. A lot of patience and observation are also required. The Invention of the simple wheel has resulted In our modern industrialization. Electricity, as a source of energy, has revolutionized the world.
Radios, TVs and cinemas which entertain us are all the products of science. So, a common man has to conclude that science is a boon to mankind. Like every coin has two sides, it was science that gave birth to destructive weapons like dynamite, guns, rifles, rockets, atom bombs and hydrogen bombs. It was science that gave electric power and nuclear power. If nuclear power was used for peaceful purposes, there Is no need to fear. But after all It Is human to err. Can anyone say that there is no chance of the destruction of a Hiroshima or a Nagasaki being repeated?
If that happens, will not science be a bane to humanity? Leaving that part, another creation of science is pollution of the environment. Industrialization with the aid of science has polluted air, water, food and the atmosphere. The ozone layer is giving threatening signals. So, here is a case for us to consider science as a cause of ruin. Humans have always been able to conquer and take control of all other creatures In the world. So, let us believe that our wisdom will prevail and that we can reason out for the well-being of our planet. hen the universe reveals more secrets to man by means of science, there is hope that the present man will soon become a superman and eventually science would only be a boon and not a bane of his life. Science without conscience is death of the soul. We are in the age of science and technology. Man cannot live without the aid of science. Science has so much engulfed our lives that nothing can take place in our day to day work without the help of science. Our food, transport, learning, administration, recreation and social life are all linked with science in various ways.
To answer the question whether science has come to mankind as a boon or as a use for ruin (bane), one should know what science exactly means. Science is said to be a systematic classification of experiences. We, men wonder at the various things and vents happening around us. We get doubts; what are they? These questions are the basic seeds for science. Then starts the thinking, reasoning, analysis, synthesis, comparison and contrast and finally the truth emerges. Scientists say there is a scientific method for everything and there are inevitable steps to be followed: (1) Observation (2) Hypothesis (3) Experiment (4) Theory and (5) Proof.
All scientists have, in a way, followed these steps. The aim of science is search for truth, and to know things, hitherto unknown. A scientist does not accept ideas, simply because, they were accepted by others earlier. Great discoveries are a result of reasoning. A lot of patience and observation are required. Civilization, as it is today, is the result of a number of discoveries made in the field of science. The invention of them simple wheel has resulted in our modern industrialization. Electricity, as a source of energy, has revolutionized the world.
Medical science is so much advanced that the average life of an Indian has risen to 62 years from 35 years. Science has contributed to the success of our green revolution and now we have enough food for all. We have enough clothing and better shelter too. All this is possible, because of science. Radios, T. C s and cinemas which entertain us are the products of science. So a common man has to conclude that science is a boon to mankind. There is the other side of the coin also. T. L. Peacock says; “l almost think that it is the ultimate destiny of science to exterminate the human race”. That is the other point of view.
It is science, which gave birth to destructive weapons like dynamite, guns, rifles, rockets, atom bombs, hydrogen bombs etc. it is science that gave electrical power and nuclear power. If nuclear power is used for peaceful purposes, there is no need for fear. But after all it is uman to err. Can anyone say that there is no chance of the destruction of a Hiroshima or a Nagasaki being repeated? If that happens, will not science be a bane of humanity? Leaving that apart, another creation of science is pollution of the environment. Industrialization with the aid of science has polluted air, water, food and the atmosphere.
The ozone layer is giving threatening signals. So here is a case for man to consider science as a cause of ruin. Man is a rational being. He can safeguard himself against all odds. That is how he was able to conquer and control all otner creatures In tne world. o let us Delleve tnat nls wlsaom wlll prevall ana ne would reason out for the well being of his kind on this planet. When the universe reveals more secrets to man by means of science, there is hope that the present man will become a superman and eventually science would be only a boon and not a bane of his life.
Science without conscience is death of the soul.Humans incessantly explore experiment, create, and examine the world. This urge to know more and explore the unexplored has given birth to the field called science. The active process by which physical, biological, and chemical occurrences are tudied is known as science . The origin of science has been lost in the mists of time. Science- this single word itself has a lot to say. Science has truly been the burning topic of the century. Today, you Just need to think about any sector and the word science will surely come up.
Science technology has made an immense impact on nearly every sphere of daily life. Science plays a major role in todays society. Science is like a knife. A knife can be used to cut vegetables. The same knife can also be used as a lethal weapon . ln the same way science can be used as a tool for the evelopment but like every coin has another side, science, when it is in wrong hands can be abused. The exploitation of science can result in several disastrous consequences like nuclear wars, catastrophic pollution and ruinous bloodshed.
It is only due to science that we stand where we are today. Science has given us lot- computers, technology, electronics, gadgets and the list goes on and on. Science has beyond doubt been a boon for us. Science has made life easier for man. Thanks to science we can travel from one corner of the world to another within seconds. Transportation has become a million times easier due to science and technology. Through telecommunication and technology science has brought the world closer. Today a man in India can communicate through the internet to a person in another nook of the world.
Science has truly made us say that this is a small, small world. In fact; the world has become so small for us that we have started exploring the space and are even thinking of settlements on Mars. Science has done a great service to mankind by giving birth to medical technology. Today, science has greatly augmented the longevity of life. Once incurable diseases like small-pox have completely been radicated and dreaded maladies like Cancer are no longer without a remedy. Through the advent of hybrids farmers have received a boon. Today farming is a lot easier than it was a decade ago.
