Prostitution is defined legally as an act of promiscuous sexual intercourse involving payment by one party to the act to the other party involved in the act. Legal definitions vary according to jurisdiction in relation to the specific behaviors that constitute an act of sexual intercourse. In the contemporary period, however, the sale of sexual services by men is recognized in law.
