Science assessment questions
Identify your issue and explain why a separation of mixture isinvolved?Developing country have difficulty with getting clean and drinkable water.
Study shows that one out of nine people worldwide don’t have access to drinkable water, in developing countries as much as 80% of illnesses are cause from poor water and sanitations conditions. A water filter removes impurities by lowering contamination of water using a physical barrier or a chemical process and can save lives.Investigate a simple technique used in your issue-describe in your own words-include a diagramFor our simple technique we filtered water by using two jars and a strip of cloth, the water would be put into a jar and it will travel from the jar to the other through the cloth and while in the cloth it will be filtered and the ‘clean’ water would be in the other jar.32385016637034480509525What is being separated (solution/solute)?-identify the solution, solute and solventSolution: a solution is the solute dissolved into the solventSo, our solution is the water and dirt/mudThe solute is what is dissolved I the solutionSolute is the dirt/mudSolvent is usually present with greater amounts than the solute, it is the liquid used to dissolve the solute.Solvent is the waterWhat are the products- classify them as good or bad, give reasons?Water is a good solvent, it is one of the most important properties. Our body uses water to dissolve our food and break up food into nutrients, our body is more than 60% water and helps dissolve fat and soluble fibres. Water also increases energy and improves the immune system and overall water is amazing.
Dirt and mud is both good and bad for different reasonsDirt is beneficial for kids as it helps them build and strengthen their immune system and because mud and dirt have microbes and bacteria it helps humans become more immune, always being clean and over-sterilising is actually not a good thing as it means you will have poorer defence to diseases and illnesses. The bad thing about dirt and mud is it contains lot of infections and if it makes contact with a wound it will be very damaging. If mud or dirt makes contact with a wound not only is there a chance of getting infection but it will take longer to heal which means an increased risk of scarring. It is also a very bad idea to eat dirt, it is home to some very unpleasant parasites, some could leave you will devastating diseases and some could even lead you to death.Who are involved in the process (qualification, job description, which branches of science)There are many different types of people who specialise in water such as a water quality specialist who study how water effects human health, to work as a water quality specialist you will need a four-year degree in chemistry, earth science, biology, and or related science. Another type of person who works in this area are hydrologist, hydrologist solve water-related problems, there are different types of hydrologist like groundwater hydrologist who study water below the earths surface and surface water hydrologist who study ground water sources. To be a hydrologist you will need to have a degree in civil and environmental engineering, ecology, environmental management, environmental sciences, geography (with a physical science base), geology or soil science.
Make a prediction about the future on this issueIn an article it had said ‘by 2025, 1.8 billion people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world’s population could be living under water stressed conditions.’ So, we think that more and more people will be living under very poor conditions and will have very limited resources as the population grows. But as technology advances we hope that by then there will be a piece of technology that can filter water and there will be new ways to get water to places where it is scarce.
