Examines ideas of Weber, Parsons & Shils & applies them to Western religious alienation from mainstream society.

The purpose of this research is to examine the subject of insular-group alienation and isolation from mainstream society, particularly the phenomenon of contemporary Christian religious cultism, with reference to classical and modern sociological theory. The plan of the research will be to set forth the principal constituents of Weber’s classical analysis of religious rejections of the world and the modern analysis of values and social systems by Parsons and Shils, and then to discuss how such theories can be used to interpret the phenomenon of such religious-cult activity vis vis the modern mainstream social environment.
