The Effectss of Puting on Character
& # 8220 ; The Masque of Red Death & # 8221 ; and & # 8220 ; The Shawl & # 8221 ; are rather similar yet really dissimilar. The manner the writers described the scene set the traits of the characters & # 8217 ; personalities. In & # 8220 ; The Masque of Red Death, & # 8221 ; by Edgar Allan Poe, Prince Prospero was the chief character. In & # 8220 ; The Shawl, & # 8221 ; by Cynthia Ozick, Stella was a encouraging character. Both were greatly affected by the scenes and the inside informations to depict it.
The manner the scenes affected the characters were different in some ways. First the manner both characters acted and the scene. Prospero lived a full life of luxuries which was apparent from him being a prince and having a brilliant palace. This palace is where he ran to conceal from the Red Death. He was scared of deceasing. He figured if he isolated himself and his closest friends he would be safe. Stella on the other manus was a persecuted Jew in and on her manner to a Nazi concentration cantonment. Death was everyplace. She had no fright of it but she did non desire it to come. She merely lived her life seeking everything to last. She had nowhere to conceal as Prospero did. Yet in the terminal Prospero had to confront decease while Stella did non, even though she was in the cantonment. The attitudes of the two characters and the scene P
robably are what kept them alive.
In comparing of the manner the scene affected character, we see they were rather likewise besides. Prospero & # 8217 ; s morbid life style was rather unusual. His room of black with red window glasss of glass, his coal black clock with a low dull humdrum bell and the eccentric mask party all show he was unusual and fascinated with the bizarre. Stella & # 8217 ; s description of famished black hair, the cold conditions, and her unfeeling for others made her out to be rather unusual every bit good. Besides both characters were seen to be selfish but in different ways. Yet it is rather similar. Prospero had a land yet he separated himself from them. He isolated himself and his cupboard friends so that they may get away the Red Death. He was selfish in a manner that he would allow everyone else dice but he would conceal until it was all over. Stella & # 8217 ; s selfishness was brought out when she took the life out of the kid. She took her shawl to maintain herself warm. She felt her life was more of import than person else & # 8217 ; s. The adjectives used to depict the characters and puting were likewise. All were negative, sometimes deathlike descriptions of the clock, the black room, Prospero, Stella, her ideas and her environment.
To reason, the scene in & # 8220 ; The Masque of Red Death & # 8221 ; and & # 8220 ; The Shawl & # 8221 ; has morbid and deathly inside informations that are similar but they set the characters Stella and Prospero apart in some ways.
