Tuberculosis has re-emerged as a public health problem in the United States (Bloch, Onoroto, Ihle, Hadler, Hayden, & Snider, 1996, p. 26). Substantial increases in both the number of immigrants to the United States and the number of homeless persons in the population complicate the management of the disease in the contemporary period (Grimes & Grimes, 1995, pp. 164-165). Community health nursing can play an important role in the management of the contemporary tuberculosis problem (Freudenberg, 1995, pp. 15-28).
